Top Gear Australia

The highly anticipated motoring entertainment program, Top Gear Australia makes its debut. This eight episode series is the first local version of the popular BBC program, and Australian hosts Charlie Cox, Warren Brown and Steve Pizzati have spent the past busy months travelling throughout the country filming a hilarious, fun, informative and locally inspired show. Calling themselves "the ugliest men on television" the comical Australian larrikins have tested a diverse range of cars, talked, joked and sung their way through countless hours behind the wheel, have donned wool vests, top hats and goggles for stories - although not all in one outing - and have competed against each other in amusing - sometimes bordering on ridiculous - challenges. But most importantly, they have had a "darn good time".

its rubbish as Mr Clarkson would say. However, I will watch the last episode only because I want to see STIG put the GTHO around Bathurst. They should have done something more original instead of copying the briliant UK team. I thought we were better than that, thats what the dopey yanks do with all their shows. cheers n beers, Mick

Sorry this is not worth watching - they are trying too hard to be like the fantastic UK presenters which they are not! The Aust presenters seem to know this as they do not seem to have their hearts in it trying very hard to be like someone else. Sorry but it is time to come up with something original, stop trying to be something they are not. Time to pull this appalling show. Bring back the UK version (even if they are repeats). I thought one of the funniest UK episodes was when driving across Africa - using a shot gun to put a drain hole in the floor - the comb-over giggle - I could not stop laughing all the way through that episode - great TV alas the AUST version is no match.

sorry, wrong guy. still probably better then the orig though. I meant the younger guy that tried to power the electric car with drills! He seems to be the only Aussie type bloke with on screen chemistry + professionalism + car knowledge

From the first episode (stopped watching after two) I thought the guy who's hosting season two should be hosting! Will be recording the series and see how it turns out

Can't argue with any of the points so far, however I would the aussie version to work and so I will give it one more season before I pull the curtain. Here's positive thinking. You go guys!!!!!

I believe the lead host has been replaced by James Morrison (the trumpet player) for the 2nd season.

There is room for both - the UK version can't run 52 weeks a year and the local series is a good filler in the meantime. Also, why does SBS have to be so far behind showing the UK series ??? It's only Series 11 starting on Nov 24 - Series 12 is now 3 episodes in and funny as ever. They would be able to capture the audience who download as well.

An article in Prestige Motoring (Weekend Australian, 15th Nov) mentioned that SBS had to make the local one to keep the rights to the UK version. So it is worth them not only continuing the show but signing on for a second season (which they have done), at great expense to Tax Payers of course. All for a show that has lost over 50% of its viewers.

i watch it because there is nothing else available. Get rid of the Stig intros, they were immature lst year, now they are Passé. Can we get 5th gear, a much better program and a stunning woman presenter who would put a pot of guys driving to shame.

the British show I think is superior to ours. I am trying to figure why? Ok, the personalities of the hosts... maybe after few episodes I will worm up to them, I hope. But one thing I have realised may stop me from 'worming up' is that our Aussie host scream or at least speak with raised voices, unlike the Brits who just use their natural tone. Why? I don't know but it is truly irritating.

Series 12 of the UK version looks great already - some relief for those disappointed by the version here. Hopefully the local version survives, as we need all the production we can get, for local jobs etc...

Once I found myself on the skip button I decided to stop recording. Thought they deserved at least a few weeks to see how things settle in, but they all look just as uncomfortable as the first week (How about the Charlie dripping sweat during Jack Thompson's interview). They either talk too loudly, or too fast... just no sense of timing, and very little info about the cars. A shame we could not come up with our own interesting show instead of regurgitating an entertaining UK one, dripping cliché Australiana. Hope they still screen the original, silly as it is.

The thing I find annoying is - not that they are copying the UK show, not that the presenters are morons (i think the UK ones are as well) but that the presenters are actually not giving any constructive criticism or information on the vehicles. The only reason I watch the UK show is to get an opinion on the vehicles put to the test. In the first episode they put three 4WD's up against each other which I thought was a great test - but no - they didnt even give opinions as to which vehicle handled the snow or sand the best! Just wasted time watching them being morons with a stop watch! A mate suggested they cant give opinions cause if they trash a manufacturer they will never get another vehicle on the show! could be true...

Oh my god - is that really prime telly in Australia? Must be a place where apprentice directors and script writers get to practice. No thanks.

Nope, sorry, but this doesn't get any better. We have wannabe-Clarkson who seems to shout all the time, wannabe-May who tries to... just tries and then there's the comic side-kick wannabe-Hammond who is there... to make it up to three? The Ford GT camera angles were pathetic and the flicker effects distracting, the Ford vs. Holden thing... we FF'ed through and the Ute challenge (oh, how inventive!) was far too long. Then there was the "Some say he... ...we call him The Stig" mimicry - it was tired and unfunny the second time Clarkson did it, these morons just make it worse. This series is an insult to the original. Top Gear works because of the chemisry between Clarkson, May and Hammond - these three clowns are a school chemistry experiment gone bad. We won't be watching again.

Won't be submitting myself to this torture again. The first episode was so boring and tedious I couldn't watch it again. Bring back the UK version!

Come on give them ago, I expected the holden ford thing in the first show to get it out of the way, so we can move on.

Gee... how tedious... only the second episode and already we're reduced to the same old boring Holden vs. Ford argument. I had hoped for something a little more original for something under the Top Gear brand. *** STOP PRESS *** There are other, far more exciting, car manufacturers than Ford and Holden *** STOP PRESS ***
