Top Gear

PG, Entertainment, Motor Sport, Series

This is a petrol-head show with more than a touch of class. Presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, it's all about the cars. But there's a generous dollop of fun and laughter thrown in as well as the odd celebrity. Underpinning the whole melange lurks the uncompromising honesty that gives this show its grunt.

I loved this show - until Nine network killed it! I just can't be bothered watching on the off chance it is a new episode. Poo on Channel Nine!!

An hour long show; with 30 minutes of ads. Hmmm...

I love that SBS are putting as much old stuff to air as possible and the new season has already gone to air and been downloaded before the IDIOTS at CH9 get a chance to put a single second on their air!

Great show, I've been watching it since season 2 when I use to have pay TV years ago. Back then Australians got a cut down 30 minute edition which didn't have the guest star interviewed and race in a reasonably priced car.

Not at all Kenny Boy, quite the opposite. After Four Corners, Insight, Australian Story et al, I like nothing more than to cackle at their unabashedly male antics, revel in the photography and editing, and marvel at the hardware. Couldn't stand being caught in Clarkson's company for longer than five minutes, but funny he is! The show makes me want to just jump on the Trumpy and go for a blast. My only criticism is that they are 4-wheeled, caged pansies! :)

oh my god - aren't you all mortified with embarrasment that we have zero imagination, originality or creativity. this is macdonalds applied to the media. Your intelligence is being insulted and all i see is good people brainwashing themselves into thinking this is quality TV. Are we really that devoid of talent when we "Torque" came out and followed an innovative formula? We follow america, now the UK. Why not just pay them to test australian cars? My god, we are truly collonial lackeys.

Don't compare it to the UK version (if you can) and it's a great watch.

The major problem with syndications of successful shows is that they try and do a cookie cutter. Top gear UK is in what, season 12? How long have they all been together? The Aussie version was too stunted, and scripted. Im sure the UK version is scripted but it doesnt come across that way

The UK show is much better than the Aussie version, but still I would watch the Aussie one since there isnt anything else. Its the most recorded since its a duff time slot.

I thought the Aussie version was pretty infintile with the three of them trying too hard; and then it grew on me. After all, what else is there to watch on a Monday night? The Rich List? I think not. The Toorak Tractor was a hoot, as was turning the Smart car into a herse. They are not the British presenters, they never will be; but hey! they're Australian and the UK version is getting a bit stale.

Top Gear - Australia Nope, sorry. A pretty piss poor rip off and imitation of the BBC series. Charlie is a pathetic Clarkeson imitation. Pizzati tries to hard to be the 'Hamster' and Brown is certainly no James May. Can't wait for the 8 Australian episodes to be over and then we can go back to the original and the best. SBS? What were they thinking? :-) Top Gear - UK. Thank God It's back. The original and the best.

At the risk of being a heretic, and after raving about Top Gear for many years, I'm starting to find it is getting stale. Same old Stig with silly intro, same basic formula. How many TV faces or supposed famous people can try to race a crappy car around the same track? And Hamster's suddenly got "bling"!

Keeping any show like this fresh is a challenge. If I hear anymore silly intros for "The Stig" I'll scream. It will be interesting to see if the producers can take it any further and make it better. Otherwise I reckon it will start to drop down the IWT "Most Popular" list. Oz version - gulp!!

Agreed. Clarkson is an offensive arrogant plonker though.. And surely this format is running a little thin? Gawd only knows what the Australian version will be like :)
