After the death of their Mother, the grown children of Francesca Johnson, an Italian woman who married an American and settled in rural Iowa, discover secrets about her life by reading her journal. Decades earlier a magazine photographer assigned to photograph the covered bridges of Madison County stopped at their farm to ask for directions. Thus began a passionate romance that was destined to be thwarted by circumstances. Based on the book by Robert James Waller.
